Across the Golfo Dulce is Puerto Jiménez, the largest town in the Osa Península with a population of just over 3,000 habitants and its multi-colored wooden buildings.

In the late 1960s, the remote seaside town was transformed into a thriving port by gold mining and logging. With the care of its townspeople, it has managed to retain its charming, small-town ambiance.

While tourism has attracted a number of foreign residents to this little corner of the world, there is still enough of a Costa Rican population to maintain a unique local flavor. Collectively these two parks occupy about 250,000 acres of wildlife sanctuary and natural reserve that is shared with its human neighbors.
