Learn more about Pérez Zeledún and High Speed Internet options

Although Pérez Zeledón is in the province of San José, it is considered to be in the South Pacific region and is bordered by Puntarenas, Cartago, and Limon provinces. Its name comes from a motion made in 1931 to recognize the efforts made in support of the area by Lic. Pedro Pérez Zeledón. This area was the focal point of the 1948 revolution and saw the bloodiest moments of that war. Monuments in the town center remain to commemorate this historically important event. Getting to the area can be quite an adventure if you take the famous Cerro de Muerte (Hill of Death) route. Consistent with its origin, the road has claimed the lives of many people in the past. Today it retains its name but has been made much safer for road travel. If you are taking this route chances are you are headed to the capital of the canton, San Isidro de El General. The population of the canton is about 145,000 and is comprised of 12 districts, which based on geographical area, is divided equally between urban and rural populations.

With an economy originally based on agriculture starting with coffee and then moving into cattle, logging, sugar cane, and tobacco, the need to expand became evident when the international prices for these individual products began to fall. Expansion of livestock activities into processing and transportation has been made possible by the entrance of financial cooperatives, banks, local companies of the canton, communications, transporters, and various companies of the central valley that have established their operations in the canton. The area is experiencing unprecedented growth in its recent history and iTellum recognizes the need for improved communications in the form of Internet via 1:1 International Fiber Optics and Reliable Satellite Internet and Broadband.

This is why iTellum has chosen Pérez Zeledón as its latest location for a new Sales, Marketing, and Distribution Center. “We are here to help and it's a mission that started way back in 2015”, expressed Tim Foss, Founder and CEO of iTellum. He went on to add, “We aim to make a great social and economic impact on the immediate area.” With the increased attention to commerce, the development of tourism, and proximity to Pacific beaches, Secure and Fast Satellite Services will boost the communities and foster the increased communication that will help the region to grow in a positive way.

The forward-thinking in an area that was primarily agriculturally-based is complemented by a welcoming attitude, a “country-like” ambiance, and a local government that knows the potential of its jurisdiction. A look at their website shows organization and the ability to communicate information in numerous languages with clarity not only for local inhabitants but for visitors to the area. This makes it much easier for residents and newcomers alike to garner the information they need to find schools, hospitals, banks and other services, and local programs involving development in the area. As of 2015, there were 217 schools in the canton including private and public schools and universities.

The municipality has joined the Digitization Plan launched nationally in February 2020 that allows micro and small businesses to create a free website that includes virtual and face-to-face training to facilitate the new consumption habits that have moved from “brick and mortar” to the internet. These small businesses have been forced to enter this “cyber” market but are impeded by not having time to become internet savvy, not having the knowledge to do it effectively, and not having the financial resources to pay a professional to do it for them. This program will allow them to transform their businesses by giving them the resources they require to excel. The element that makes it all happen is access to Costa Rica’s only High-Speed Satellite Internet and Fastest & Most Reliable Internet in Costa Rica.

Superior internet gives Pérez Zeledón the extra component that was missing from the plan. The redundant quality of the service coupled with the best service and support will make the difference in the success of the small businesses in this program.

But let’s not forget about some of the natural resources that make this area special. The highest mountain peak in Costa Rica resides in the national park known as Chirripo with a height of 3821 meters or 12,536 feet. Located in the Talamanca Mountain Range it is also the second-highest peak in Central America. Chirripo means “Land of the Eternal Waters”. At the peak, one can view 30 lakes and lagoons in green season. The area is famous for hiking and has various types of terrain from swamps to cloud forests and fern groves. There are 263 species of amphibians and reptiles, and about 400 bird species. Chirripo National Park shelters the largest population of tapir in the country, in addition to puma, jaguar, peccary, monkeys, and many other species of mammals. The resplendent quetzal is also an attraction for bird watchers. There are several tour operators that do hiking and mountaineering tours, canopy tours, rafting, ATVs, rappelling, local garden tours, bird sanctuaries, hot springs, coffee tours, and waterfall excursions.

Although the indigenous population is no longer a major part of the community, they have since moved south in the Talamanca Mountain Range and are known for their exceptional, colorful mask carvings that you may find both in the Pérez Zeledón area and in the beach areas close by.

Another plus about this region is its proximity to the coastal areas of Dominical, Uvita, Ballena, Ojochal, and many more going southward. With Pérez Zeledón being only less than an hour away and home to Itellum´s new Sales, Marketing, and Distribution Center, the Best Satellite Broadband Possible is available too in this canton as well as the beach communities.

Pérez Zeledón’s future looks exciting and the canton and surrounding areas may well have the best Internet in Costa Rica making it the perfect destination for people looking to work remotely in paradise.
