Potrero: A laid-back community that should not go unnoticed is Playa Potrero, Bahia Potrero, and Surfside all part of the same town of Potrero. Just next to Flamingo, this town started as a humble fishing village. Unlike Flamingo, the old town of Potrero has the feeling of authentic Costa Rica and could be considered a bedroom community of Flamingo. As a growing community, it has great potential and “thirst” for High-Speed Satellite Broadband Internet.

Learn more about Potrero and high speed internet options

Its unassuming infrastructure has a history, insofar as it has the elements of all small towns in Costa Rica, with a school, soccer field, church, surrounded by small homes, sodas (local small restaurants), and a few small grocery stores. It is quite the opposite of its neighbor Flamingo and has a certain serenity of days gone by while at the same time celebrates the fishing culture that still exists here along with the increasing hunger for growth and technology through the Fastest & Most Reliable Internet in Costa Rica.

Here you can evade the pressures of modern life while still taking advantage of working remotely from Costa Rica with iTellums Internet via 1:1 International Fiber Optics.

It’s the perfect place to take advantage of the new initiative establishing a “Digital Nomad” residency category based on the availability of Fiber Optic Internet Connectivity. Potrero has many assets that make it an ideal choice.

Potrero is made up of two areas, one being the original town with the church and school mentioned earlier and Surfside which starts at the beach and stretches inland. The inland part of Surfside is a small residential development where many ex-pats live amongst the Tico population with a diversification of vacation properties, private residences, and a mix of high-end vacation homes, some simple home structures, and empty lots. There are a few small businesses mixed in and the occasional call from the treetop howler monkeys. This makes it a more affordable place than its luxury-based neighbor and a good place for new families to start and people to retire. Couple this with Costa Rica’s only High-Speed Satellite Internet and Faster, Better, Stronger Fiber Optic Internet and Support, and you have a winning combination.

The real estate market in Potrero is far more approachable and affordable than nearby towns such as Flamingo and Tamarindo for the majority of buyers wanting to locate in the area. The best internet in Costa Rica also plays a big part in the decision-making process. Potrero has a variety of properties from high-end homes to simple houses to vacant lots that can be very appealing to a variety of buyers. The new legislation on residency status reduces the minimum capital investment for Costa Rica residency from $200,000 to $150,000. This makes this area an attractive option for families to invest in a tropical home. People who qualify would not be taxed on external income such as retirement pensions which again gives Potrero an edge. Pensioners can enjoy a quiet small-town atmosphere and still have all amenities close by. With all this going on, it is comforting to know that even if you choose to locate outside of the town, Rural Satellite Internet will keep you connected.

Although there are no large corporate conglomerates here, there is a healthy variety of businesses primarily involved in tourism, the hospitality industry, and real estate.

Travel accommodations vary in and around Potrero from, high-end beach resorts to all-inclusive to eco-hotels, boutique hotels, and quaint cabinas. However, there is a large selection of private vacation rentals in the form of condos, apartments and houses that are available through Airbnb, Surfside Property Management, and VRBO. iTellum provides commercial grade internet for hotels and businesses to help them keep their competitive edge. Be it Bahia del Sol beachfront hotel or “glamping” at Libelula Lodge, your internet needs are covered.

Although Potrero is a small community, it does have some interesting restaurants and with Flamingo just around the corner, there is no shortage of places to go and eat. Both Potrero and Surfside have many recommendations for restaurants on Trip Advisor. There’s Italian, Mexican, seafood American bar food and barbeque, Costa Rican, Peruvian, and more. There is even a local craft brewery, Cerveceria Independiente, that serves a variety of craft beers and a small pub menu. You can even tour the brewing process. For a prime location, great view, and reasonable menu with vegan and vegetarian options there is the Latitude 10 Beach Bar at the Sailing Center. All businesses in the area benefit from superior internet and most offer free WiFi to their guests.

And speaking of sailing, the Costa Rica Sailing Center is right on the beach and only one of the water sports to do in the area. This region has some of the best sport fishing in the world and Playa Portero as a historical fishing village has fishing tours that allow you to fish for Sailfish, Marlin, Wahoo, Snapper, Roosterfish, Tuna, and Dorado. Tours to the neighboring Catalina Islands give you the opportunity to snorkel or scuba dive the coral reefs to view Manta Rays, Cow Nosed, and Devil Rays, and Dolphins up close and personal. The proximity of other beautiful beaches is optimum to go beach-hopping. Flamingo, Coco, Conchal, and some less-known beach are close by and worth the adventure.

If being near the water does not appeal to you, you can visit the yoga centers in town, go golfing at the world-renowned courses at Pinilla and Conchal or go for something more traditional. Guanacaste is old cowboy country, so a traditional excursion would include some horseback riding on the beach or the nearby forests and farms. Potrero is close to some of the best National Parks in Costa Rica. Visit the Baulas National Marine Park, and the Santa Rosa National Park and look for sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and tropical birds. Enjoy tours to the Caves of Barra Honda, the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, Tenorio Volcano, and the turquoise waters of Rio Celeste. High-Throughput Satellite Broadband through iTellum keeps you in touch wherever you go.
