Often referred to as the “City of Poets and Presidents”, the people of San Ramón are true fans of their city, and with good reason. Five of Costa Rica’s presidents hail from San Ramon, including José Figueres Ferrer, the man responsible for abolishing Costa Rica’s army in 1948.

Celebrated poets, including Lisímaco Chavarria Palma and Félix Ángel Salas Cabezas, were also raised in San Ramon. Considered to have one of the most agreeable climates in the world, San Ramon sits at an altitude of 1,057 m (3,468 ft) with warm temperatures ranging from 13 to 27 °C (55.4 to 80.6 °F).

Located on the very outskirts of the central valley and about 58 km (36 mi) from San Jose, San Ramon is self-sufficient even though many people commute to the San Jose area. The growing city still retains its charming “pueblo” vibe, with a diverse selection of inhabitants including working professionals, entrepreneurs, farmers, students, and retirees to mention a few.

Although the town itself has about 13,000 residents, the canton has a population of approximately 95,000. That means that many homes and businesses are located in the countryside of agricultural land, rain forest, and mountains.
